"Martini Time: Shaken and Stirred"
Exhibition Dates: September 4th - 24th, 2003
(Seattle, WA) Vetri International Glass is proud to present a solo exhibition for Seattle glass artist Bill Akers. The show entitled "Martini Time: Shaken and Stirred" will feature 20 works of glass art including martini glasses, shakers, small vases and a chandelier. A reception for the Artist will be held on Thursday September 4th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Vetri, located one block north of the Seattle Art Museum.
Akers approaches his work with a whimsical eye and sense of humor. He plays with our idea of the expected with a sometimes curved and twisted stem, embellished with delicate leaves or a sprightly placed flower. Vases may be outfitted with wings as if ready for flight or perhaps bejeweled murrini dancing across a vivid background. The artist's work has a certain countenance and appeal expressed with color, graceful detail and adornment. Each has a lusty visual prose, while maintaining functional purpose.
Bill Akers background is in glassblowing and other 3 dimensional art forms to include bronze casting and stone carving. He has honed his craft while studying in Carrara, Italy and Berkeley, California at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Akers work has been featured in both public and private collections. Mr. Akers currently runs an independent studio in the Northwest.
