"The Elephant in the Room" Exhibition Dates: August 1 - 27, 2006 Artist Reception: Thursday August 3rd, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. (Seattle, WA) Vetri International Glass is pleased to present The Elephant In The Room, a solo exhibition for glass artist Bridget Boss. The show is comprised of 25 blown glass pieces that are graal painted to have lavishly rich layers and textures. Boss utilizes the shape of an egg - although on a much larger scale - as well as bowls and cylinders to create an aesthetically deep, thought-provoking collection. Through her work, Bridget asks important questions about interpersonal relationships and everyday life that resonates with the viewer living in today's societal state. The slightly subdued colors, imagery of time and map-like markings displayed in Bridget's work inherently give the viewer a treasure trove of questions to ponder. The goal with these works, says Bridget, is to stimulate conversation by their presence. "Allowing the elephant in the room to be present with no mention of it furthers the ignorance that is dividing humanity." Bridget's work expresses quandaries about the everyday world around us, and how we interact within it. This is achieved by visually blending ideas with sensual colors and clean simple shapes such as the egg. Bridget received her MFA in Glass from Ohio State University and her BFA in Glass and Metal Fabrication from New York State College of Ceramics and Glass Art at Alfred University. She has worked for many accomplished artists such as Katherine Gray, Ruth King and Fred Tschida and has had a long history with the Pilchuck Glass School. She has been a teaching artist for several years in various glass-art programs in the US and has extensive arts administration experience. Bridget currently resides in New York where she is an arts program coordinator with the New York City public schools in the Bronx and Manhattan as well as at-risk youth programs in Newark and Orange, New Jersey.
