FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEATURED ARTIST:
MASSIMO MICHELUZZI
Exhibition Dates: August 11 September 14, 2002
Opening Reception: Sunday August 11th, 2-5 p.m.
(Seattle, WA) Vetri International Glass is pleased to present the Venetian glass artist Massimo Micheluzzi as the featured artist from August 11 through September 14. Massimo's exhibition will feature sixteen works of art, including murrine vessels in brilliant red, black and white along with elegant achromatic vases and bowls. The opening will take place from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday August 11th at Vetri, one block north of the Seattle Art Museum.
Massimo's fusion of classic Muranese technique with his contemporary flare for design evokes a sense of fluidity and responds to his most profound inspiration - the beauty that surrounds him in Venice. The artist's deeply incised blown vessels assume a sculptural quality while his murrine pieces elicit the play of natural light on the varied textures found in the Venetian cityscape. "I simply wanted to create a sense of movement in what is normally considered a static material".
Susan Marabito, Vetri's Director adds: "Massimo offers a strong sense of himself in this body of work. Each piece extends a quiet dignity that delivers a very personal reflection of his Venice. Some pieces are enchantingly consumed in an aggregate of graphics, while others are soothing and hauntingly idyllic, but they are all ultimately his vision of home."
Micheluzzi was born in Venice Italy and attended the Art History Faculty at Ca' Foscary University. He first became interested in contemporary glass art through his friendship with the Venini de Santillana family. In 1990, he began collaboration with Laura de Santillana, where he gained extensive skills while assisting in the production of her work. Shortly after, and with the help of Archimede Seguso, he began concentrating on his own style and currently enjoys working in his Venice studio. Massimo's work can be seen in museums such as: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, NY, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX, The American Craft Museum, NY, NY, and Musee de Sars, Poteries, France.
