(Seattle, WA) Vetri International Glass is honored to present a solo exhibition for Seattle glass artist, Janusz Pozniak entitled "A Few New Ideas". On display July 3rd- through July 27th, "A Few New Ideas" will feature 15 works of blown glass art, including bowl / vase combos, cage jars, wine and martini glasses. An Artist's reception will be held on Thursday July 3rd from 5:00 8:00 p.m. at Vetri, one block north of the Seattle Art Museum.

"A Few New Ideas" embodies beauty and decoration while providing functionality. Inspired by the Venetian glass designs of the late 1920's and early 30's, many of the pieces manifest Pozniak's reverence for Ercole Barovier, especially his whimsical groupings of functional forms. Pozniak states, "I hope that my objects, which most people see as functional, can achieve the same thing as the work of those early masters to also be seen as objects that will brighten the homes they are placed in. I hope they will continue to inspire people to fill their living space with things that add to a world that is already so naturally beautiful." Pozniak furthers explains how imperative it is to him that in the design and creation of these pieces, he respect the forms that inspired them; however, he reinterprets the work to a new and original shape that is contemporary and close to perfect in execution.

Born in Swindon, England, Pozniak received a BA in Glass from West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham, England. From 1987-1989, Pozniak was the apprentice to Master Glassblower Ronald Wilkinson at The Glasshouse, Covent Garden in London England. Since moving to Seattle in 1990, he has worked as a glassblower for such artists as Dante Marioni, Sonja Blomdohl, Benjamin Moore, Dale Chihuly, Lino Tagliapietra and Dick Marquis. Janusz has received scholarships and acted as an assistant instructor, visiting artist and lecturer for both Pilchuck Glass School (Stanwood, WA) and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (Deer Isle, MI). His work has been featured in such publications as Glass and Art, American Style, Niche Magazine, Seattle PI, The New York Times, The Seattle Times, and Glashaus.
