FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONCEPT: SUBTLE
SEAN ALBERT, Featured Artist at VETRI

Exhibition Dates: July 4 August 4, 2002
Reception for the Artist: Wednesday, July 3rd, 5-8 p.m.

(Seattle, WA) Vetri International Glass is pleased to present the first solo exhibition by local glass artist Sean Albert. The exhibition, Concept: Subtle, will feature 26 individual works in glass, including 5 fused panels, 3 sets of incalmo vessels in soft colors as well as a series of white on white pieces. The opening will take place from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd at Vetri, one block south of the historic Pike Place Market.

Albert's new series, Subtle, utilizes simple, clean and non-obtrusive forms as canvases on which he highlights the fine variations in value between two or more similar colors.

The artist says of this body of work: "I've recently become fascinated with the delicate, yet direct relationship that colors have to the forms they encompass. To me each subtle grouping is a mini-installation designed to evoke feelings of clarity, elegance and directness within its environment."

According to Vetri Director, Susan Marabito: "Sean Albert's subtle use of color creates a pallet of inviting romantic pieces that can be a refreshing alternative to the bold colored glass market. Many of his pieces feel like Morandi still lives and I think his 'white on white' series is a direct reference to works of an early Russian abstract painter."

Albert received his BFA in glass from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1998. Since then he has studied at Pilchuck (WA), Penland (NC), and Haystack (ME) with established glass artists including Lino Tagliapietra, David Levi, Josiah McElheny and Ruth King. Albert is the 2002 recipient of the Pratt Fine Arts Center Michael Kennedy Scholarship and is working at Pilchuck with David Levi and Peter Ivy for the third session of 2002.
