William Couig is a glass artist living in New York City. After receiving a B.A. in Literature and Writing from the Johns Hopkins University, Bill discovered glass while spending a year backpacking around the world. Captivated by the various glass demonstrations he witnessed on his trip, Bill began blowing glass upon his return to the states in the spring of 1997 at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, New York where he continues to work as an editorial assistant for Glass Magazine.

After learning the basics of glassblowing, Bill found a full time position as a designer and gaffer at E-Glass Studio in Hoboken, New Jersey in the fall of 1997. He remained there, perfecting his skills, until the fall of 2001 when the studio changed locations. Since then Bill has concentrated on his own body of work while working again out of UrbanGlass.

In recent years, his work has been included in the SOFA Chicago 2000 Exposition as well as the 2001 New York Biennial of Glass and more recently, his Logic Series of multiple component structures were represented at the SOFA New York 2002 Exposition. Additionally, Bill's work can be seen in recent issues of American Craft, Vetro, and CRART Magazines and will be included in the forthcoming New Glass Review 24.
