Orfeo Quagliata has been working with glass since he was 12 when he began apprenticing with his father, acclaimed artist Narcissus Quagliata. Born in 1972, Orfeo was raised in San Francisco with frequent travel to Europe. He spent summers in Sardegna where he was first inspired by the work of Italian design masters, Joe Colombo and Gaetano Pesce. Winters were spent in Vienna with his Grandmother, Herta Jalkotzy, an award-winning jewelry designer in the Wiener Werkstatte.
At 17, Orfeo moved to Spain to apprentice with Catalonian glass artist Jose Fernaandez Castrillo, where he learned cold-working techniques that have become a cornerstone of his work today. He later returned to San Francisco to study Industrial and Furniture Design at the California College of Arts, earning a BFA with high distinction in 1999.
Following this lineal tradition in glass and jewelry, Orfeo relocated to Mexico City in 2001. His collections include innovations in hand-blown crystal and fused glass jewelry, accessories, vessels and sculptural objects.
