"I have always drawn from my environment and recollections for inspiration in my work. Awareness of my surroundings allows me the clarity to translate my thoughts while memories that decorate my life are illuminated- they have no form, but their colors are vivid.
A recent trip back to my country, Japan, gave me the opportunity to find a more balanced approach in my work. I was able to experience Japanese traditional arts, crafts and nature again. With its combination of philosophy, craftsmanship, simplicity and form, a humble, everyday object is transformed into a piece worth admiring. I realized that the organic and subtle nature of objects is beautiful. This has led me to explore creating perfect imperfections in my work. I have become more aware of the flaws that make the world complete and their beauty."
