The vessels I create are an exploration of design, fragility, beauty and strength that stems from my sculptural work, where patterns and materials play important roles. The unique pattern on the vases was molded from an historic, turn of the 20th century fire place cover. I have chosen to reform the pattern into a contemporary, crystal version of the delicate design once used to decorate an iron grate. The pieces are created using a lost-wax, kiln casting method, where each piece is first carved by hand in wax. The kiln casting method presents a near perfect recreation of each tool stoke, and each mark making method is evident in the final glass casting revealing a history of its creation.
