Lampwork, to me, is more akin to music than graphic art forms like painting. Like music, there is a lot of practice before the mechanics begin to disappear and the work coalesces into more than the sum of its parts. The glass itself sets the tempo. When the glass works easily it is evidenced in the continuity of form in the finished pieces. I often try to play variations on a theme, to add a contour or line that expresses a new perspective. To get something shaped before it cools, to make the glass reflect my sense of form is the challenge. This is where I find a sense of accomplishment and source of satisfaction
