In Soft Geometry, Branam consciously contrasts the varied and sometimes contradictory qualities of glass: opaque meets transparent and straight lines meet soft curves, resulting in intriguing, expressive forms. Layer upon layer of decorative cane accentuates the artist's unique shapes, creating patterns within patterns in the work, much like a multi-layered arithmetical equation.
This new series was born out of the Branam's love of a challenge, his desire to make a form, without use of a mold, that does not lend itself easily to the nature of glass blowing. The artist's sculptures demonstrate a deep reverence for the history and tradition of glassblowing, as well as his early ongoing interest in mathematics, particularly geometry, and technical design and drafting principals.
